Episode 30: Summertime and the Knittin’ ain’t easy….

Listen here!

Off the Needles:

Susan has 4 things off her needles: 2 very wearable cardigans, Kara and  Vitamin D!

Also 2 shawlettes, On the Hill– made with Dirty Water Dyeworks Lillian in the Mountain Mist colorway, and Dangling Conversation, made with 1 Skein of Shibui linen in the Tar colorway. And that is just one of the reasons why Susan calls Dangling Conversation the perfect summer project!

Kris checked in with her beautiful Ellipses , in the works with Madtosh Pashmina. Sally continues to work on her Liesl, with Spud ‘n Chloe Sweater in a gorgeous Red. Susan started her own Ellipses, inspired by Kris’s.  Susan’s is in Madtosh pashmina also, in an irresistible colorway, Foxglove! Also, Susan was recently inspired to pick up Marin again, after seeing it made up  during a visit to Gather Here. Gorgeous!

In Our Queues!

Kris has some Rowan Summer Tweed in her stash that she is thinking of knitting up into a Boneyard shawl. Knit that stash! She is also considering the Shoulder Cozy  from Churchmouse Yarns and Tea, which uses Summer Tweed and a strand of Kidsilk haze- 2x the Stash-bust!!

Sally is considering an Icelandic sweater , only after some consideration of some stash busting .  And the French Market basket will help her accomplish that goal! Sal is also looking at a lovely (FREE!) pattern, That Nice Stitch as a lovely way to use her new Hilltop Handspun birthday skeins.

Susan is in a linen mood- all her Queue items are made with linen:

Huevos from Carol Feller, Salt Water by Sylvie Bobilvie, Linen Top – Kat Coyle, and another Dangling Conversation designed by Mindy Ross.

Kris acquired a skein of Cascade Casablanca on a recent visit to Loopy Yarn in Chicago.  A pretty self-striping  colorway called Seaside – this was a perfect souvenir!

Susan  bought just one skein  on vacation at the local knit store/hardware store- The Yarn Basket in Eastham , MA. What a great combination! This is a skein of Cestari wool/cotton in the Mint colorway.

Kris shared a new ‘e-zine’ she discovered — By Hand (and here is another: UKHandmade).

Susan-  Read Birdsong by Sebastian Faulkes. Very graphic account of WWI literally in the trenches…Susan also read The medici curse by  Matt Collins-great for some history of Florence, Instruments of Darkness- by Imogen Robertson. This is the first volume of the series- we talked about the second volume last episode.

Sally is escaping into the Ruth Galloway series this summer. The first volume in this series is  Crossing Places by Elly Griffiths. Sally also has been listening to Outlander by Diana Gabalton.

Somehow , we veered off  onto a discussion of TV, first The Killing , an AMC series in its 3rd season. And then onto the PBS shows we love…. Susan just discovered the Inspector Lewis series…..

Last, but not least, we have Events!

Martha (Goldybear) has shared with our rav group a very cool event happening on Saturday  August 10th. The Newburyport FiberRevival is a great chance for us to have a meetup! So if you live in the area and can meet up with us, that would be fantastic! We will be posting more details on our  rav group.
