We are so happy to be back after taking an unforseen break in June. We got together recently at Kris’s house to sip some cold-brewed iced coffee, munch on snacks and talk about our knitting.
Off The Needles:
Susan had a few things off her needles: She’s A Waterfall by Dani Sunshine, a wonderful assymetrical shawlette that is fun to knit!
Zaria is also finished-in gorgeous Malabrigo Arroyo! Love this yarn.
Kris finished her Zephyr Cove — a very large shawl with a bit of everything — and a Mashpee Shawlette out of MadTosh Dandelion — a very sweet little shawl with some unclear instructions in the pattern. Susan started a Mashpee, but had a little trouble with the edging and gave up……. (More news on that — Tian issued an update to the pattern yesterday which fixes the confusion at the beginning of the pattern.)
On the Needles:
Susan still has Nangou on the needles- a retooled version with stripes in 2 colors of grey of Classic Elite Firefly. Also, 2nd sock of It’s a Guy Thing, lovely pattern. Also, just barely started is Annis– terrible choice of cast on -knitted cast on. Soon to be ripped out. Very soon- uggh!
Kris is still working on her Samedhi — another lovely little shawlette. The welthase merino light is just wonderful to knit with.
Susan was unable to resist some road trip stash enhancement:
A skein of Meadow in the Larkspur colorway, a skein of Madtosh Prairie in the Begonia Leaf colorway, and a skein of Malabrigo sock in the Impressionist Sky colorway- so pretty!
Susan encouraged Kris to buy some Shibui linen — probably for Louise Zass-Bangham’s Foolproof. Three great colorways: Ivory, Suit, and Caffeine.
For Kris — Martina Behm’s Brickless (saw some beautiful ones at the Common Cod meeting last week), Churchmouse’s Seashore Kerchief (starts with all the stitches and then decreases — so motivating!), Heidi Kirrmaier’s Vitamin D, and Dani Sunshine’s She’s a Waterfall in some beautiful Bella Lino in the Primavera colorway.
Susan always likes what Kris finds to queue, so she also queued Brickless and Samadhi. Also in her Queue, Pebble Beach Shawlette by Helen Stewart, Vitamarie by Franklin Habit, and a cardigan- Sandshore by Alicia Plummer.
On The Bookshelf:
Susan read a variety of fiction, good and bad. The Dinner by Herman Koch (disturbing but good), Delicious: A Novel by Ruth Reichl (disappointing), The Book Thief by Markus Zusak (amazing- poetic prose), The Sandcastle Girls by Chris Bohjalian, a novel about the Armenian Genocide, The End of the Point by Elizabeth Graver (great summer read!) and Bridget Jones: Mad about the Boy (didn’t love it).
Kris has been racing through a stack of mysteries — the last two Flavia de Luce books (big doings in the most recent one), Martha Grimes’ Vertigo 42 (which it turns out is a real bar in London at the top of Tower 42), Ann Cleeves’ Dead Water, and M.C. Beaton’s Death of a Policeman.
Kris and Susan thoroughly enjoyed Franklin Habit’s “Impractical Knitting” talk at the most recent Common Cod Fiber Guild meeting made us laugh out loud – a lot!
Another upcoming event is the Fiber Revival in Newbury Ma on Saturday August 9. We had such a good time last year!
